After graduating from Bristol University I embarked on my career in advertising at Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe. Having spent six years at RKCR I moved to BBH London in 2001 to handle Barclays, Axe (Lynx) and Robinsons. I moved into headhunting in 2005 and moved to Singapore in 2007 to set up and run The Talent Business. Not only is this an incredibly exciting market for the communications industry, it is also a great place from which to explore Asia and indulge in my passion for sport both on land and sea.
After narrowly escaping a career in law, I returned home to Zambia and taught at my former school. Controlling fifteen 2-3 year olds was to prove great training for life. Upon returning to the UK, I spent five years as a model agent; fast, furious and great fun, but on reaching Head Booker it was time for something more grown up. I joined Stolkin & Partners in 2003 and, post the merger with Kendall Tarrant, I moved from The Talent Business's London office to help launch our Singapore office in April 2007 continuing to specialize in account handing and planning. In my spare time, and in no particular order, I love exploring new places (and where better than Asia), reading, pilates, champagne, vintage jewellery, Grand Designs and the real crime channel.
Born into a family of Doctors and Creative Directors, I always knew I wanted to do something more creatively focussed - so it was either going to be as a plastic surgeon or to work for an Ad agency. After graduating from Witwatersrand University in Johannesburg I was drawn into the crazy dot.com explosion, working for the leading online consumer portal in South Africa, iAfrica.com for 2 years before the advertising industry hooked me in. I worked my way up at Leo Burnett leading the Coca-Cola, Diageo and Levi’s accounts, before joining start-up Agency “Stick”, with the Coca-Cola business. In 2008 I moved to Singapore to join Euro RSCG (now Havas) overseeing their Coca-Cola and FMCG portfolio and 2 years later Ogilvy & Mather as a Regional Business Director. In late 2011 The Talent Business gave me a refreshing new perspective into a world I thought I knew so well. Passionate about great ideas and people, I love being able to work closely with some of the brilliant minds behind these, in my role leading the creative practise across Asia Pac. Asia remains a dynamic market in the communications industry, with opportunities at both a global and regional level, and a drive to be more innovative in their thinking. Outside of work - it’s also just an amazing location to explore and enjoy beautiful beaches, warm weather and friendly and diverse cultures and food.
As the daughter of a marketer, I watched my first rough cut at 9 years old and decided back then that advertising was what I wanted to do. Unlike most childhood ambitions, I was fortunate enough to make this a reality at 22 when I joined AMV BBDO London on their graduate scheme. Over my two years there I worked on Aviva, Bayer and Heinz and fell more in love with this world that allowed me to make tomato ketchup and soup my full time job. Following my time at AMV, I worked at a boutique creative hot shop, Isobel, managing Diageo, Werther’s and Bernard Matthews Farms. A couple of years later an irresistible opportunity at Ogilvy Advertising on the Global American Express business tempted me back to big agency life and Ogilvy was home until I moved from London to Singapore in 2012. I spent 3 years leading a group of accounts at Grey Singapore including Sentosa, Pringles and HSBC. Through my career, the team and people aspect of the job made me feel most fulfilled so being a Partner at The Talent Business is really all my favourite things combined! Indian by origin, British by nationality and having lived in Mumbai, London, Edinburgh and Singapore, home for me is really now wherever my husband and dog are. My big, epic love is for animals and a lot of my free time is spent volunteering at SOSD, the dog rescue charity.
Having trained as a Civil Engineer, I realised early on that I would very much prefer working with people. So I got myself into HR, and later joined the Leadership Consulting team at Heidrick & Struggles. Now, I’m excited to deepen my venture in this industry of finding the best fit for the right people with The Talent Business. At other times, the outdoorsy side of me is always keen to explore new places, and is always ready for adventures! When not planning my next trip, I enjoy running, and equally love delving into a good book or good music, and learning more to have fresh eyes and perspectives for the world.
Armed with a Bachelor of Arts degree, little knowledge of the world of advertising and lots of enthusiasm, I wrote to all the agencies in Singapore asking for a break...and that started my twenty year journey into the manic world of advertising and communications. I've spent the last fifteen years in China and led major accounts and offices in McCann, D'Arcy and Y&R, in Beijing and Shanghai. I've also been fortunate to have worked with many talented people around the world, but one key issue that continues to plague the industry has been Talent and even with 1.3 billion people, China is talent starved. I currently help Talent and Agency networks find a strategic fit.
I most recently worked at Dell as a Team Admin Officer but prior to that I also worked in a few advertising agencies in Shanghai, as Office Manager for DDB in Shanghai, an Administration Manager in South China Media Group and also as an HR Specialist in Bates Shanghai. I'm outgoing and interested in reading, travelling and music. I graduated from Jiaotong University and majored in Hotel Management. In my new role, I will provide support to Talent Strategists as Office Manager.
My work experience centered around administrative and back-end office management in MNC companies and advertising agencies. I've always loved meeting people and joined The Talent Business in September 2011 as a Talent Analyst, helping our Talent Strategist source out the best talents for our agency partners. I enjoy travelling to interesting places and chilling out with my friends over a nice cup of coffee.
